About Elderslie for Everyone

Elderslie for Everyone is an exciting opportunity to re-imagine Main Road, making it a more vibrant, accessible, and welcoming place for people to spend time in and travel through.

Project Background

Sustrans Scotland is working in partnership with the local community to collaboratively reimagine Main Road’s public space, with support from Renfrewshire Council.

Through a collaborative design process, we put the people who use the space at the heart of designing solutions.

Key aims and objectives for Elderslie of Everyone

The purpose of this project is to produce an initial design which aims to:

Project Objectives

  • Provide a safe, accessible, and attractive walking and wheeling route for residents and visitors to and through Elderslie on the National Cycle Network (National Cycle Network Route 7).

  • Ensure that cycle users have a safe, protected route through Elderslie when riding along National Cycle Route 7.

  • Reflect Elderslie’s identity in the development of public realm, creating places that celebrate this identity and spaces where people will enjoy spending time.

  • Improve awareness of National Cycle Network and benefits of active and sustainable travel.

  • Develop high quality infrastructure and help realign priorities towards walking, wheeling and cycling, thus allowing more people to experience the health and wellbeing benefits of choosing to travel actively and sustainably.

  • Empower the local community to influence decisions affecting their daily lives and their local environment.

Project area

The project area is focussed on improving the only on-road section of the National Cycle Network between Paisley and Kilbirnie, from near the old railway station in the east and opposite the Wallace Residential Care Home in the west. It also includes the green spaces in Stoddard Square, the green space opposite Wallace Residential Care Home and the area by the NCN in the east.

The concept design will cover all the road, pavement and public space between the buildings on either side of the street.

Not all areas within the design scope will necessarily receive the same level of focus or intervention. Any comments out with the concept design area will be passed back to project partners for future consideration.

How can I get involved in the project?

The design process will be shaped by a series of events, workshops and activities in Elderslie, providing multiple  opportunity for the community and stakeholders to tell us what changes they would like to see, give feedback on designs as well as take part in activities.

Whether you live, work or travel through Elderslie we would love to hear from you.

Please fill out our community survey and put comments on the project area map.
